ADRE JUAN JOSÉ SÁNCHEZ CANDELARIA TOLEDO:
Information on the internet 1 Jul 2006 "Abiquiu's Timeline"

To stabilize settlement in the area.
Fray Juan José Toledo
A pueblo was founded on the present area mesa-top in 1754, by Genizaros, detribalized and largely Hispanicized Indians.
The new pueblo, about a mile and a half from the Spanish settlement of Santa Rosa de Lima, was called Santo Tomas de Abiquiu.
Fray Juan José Toledo, who was a minister here between 1756 and 1771, built a convento and put up the walls for a church. (Missions Books)

Information from internet: Thesis: A Church Growth Study of the Zuni Indians", Chapter 3, by Ralph Terry, 2 July 2006.

The eighteenth century was marked by an irregular work by the missionaries at the Zuni mission. In the latter half of the century. Apache and Navaho raids increased while the missionary work decreased. Some of the missionaries stationed at Zuni included Padre Juan José Toledo (1744-1748),

Information from Ernest J Sanchez in e-mail on 28 Jun 2006.

The only Toledo listed in the 1750 Census was Fray Juan José Toledo who took the census in Galisteo. He was a priest in Abiquiu when it was resettled in 1754. He was back in Tomé in 1760. He was the father of José Marcial Torres along with Maria Encarnacion Torres.

In Herencia, Oct 1996, page 17, article by Margaret L. Buxton. San Fernando de los Silvas is not to be confused with Nuestra Senora de la Luz de San Fernando y San Blas which is a larger tract far to the west on the Rio Puerco northwest of Atrisco and northwest of Alameda. José Marcial's father was the priest Fray Juan José Toledo. See above article for proof. In archive No. 18, he was the priest at Abiquiu when it was resettled in 1754; and in Archive no. 358, the same priest signed the will of the soldier, Juan Gallegos, in Tome in 1760.

This line leads to Ramona Otero (Ernest J Sanchez's mom) through both José Francisco Toledo and Antonio José Toledo and Maria Micaela Garcia.

This line leads to Robert Isaac thru Maria Josefa Toledo through the priest Toledo and Maria Micaela Garcia.

This line leads to Theresa Torres Mata through priest Toledo and Maria Encarnacion Torres.

ARÍA ENCARNACIÓN TORRES:
Information from Ernest J Sanchez in e-mail on 28 Jun 2006.

In Tome Marriages, page 6, Jose Marcial Torres, 17, son of Maria Encarnacion Torres married Maria Gertudis Venavides, 18, daughter of Manuel Venavides and Catharina Toledo (both deceased). Padrinos: Bartholo Pino and his wife Antonia Josefa Torres of Los Chaves. B-54, 733.

In Herencia, page 21 & 23, Oct 1996 issue, Buxton says that Jose Marcial Torres was the son of Juan Jose Toledo, husband of Micaela Toledo and that in another encounter, Encarnacion also had a son by Juan Francisco Tafoya, husband of Maria Juliana Delores de Toledo, daughter of Jose Francisco Toledo and Juana Andrea Jollanco Lucero.
Encarnacion Torres is never a madrina in Tome marriages. It is a fact that legal family members may be padrinos for natural children of their father or mother but this custom is never reversed. We have established a blood tie between Quiteria Torres and Encarnacion Torres. They each had a natural child, the first in 1778, the latter 1779. Were they servants of the Diego Torres family or illegitimate Torres offspring?? Juan Pio Torres may as well be a brother also. In page 25 author says, "We have established a blood tie between Quiteria Torres and Encarnacion Torres. They each had a natural child, the first in 1778, the latter in 1779. Were they servants of The Torres Family or illegitimate Torres offspring. In page 26, little is known of Encarnacion and Quiteria Torres. They left many descendants, but their origins remain a mystery.

This line leads to Theresa Torres Mata through priest Toledo and Maria Encarnacion Torres.
