Mata Funeral Is Held Here Today
Funeral Services were held at the Spanish-American Assembly of God church, here today, for J.G. Mata, 64, who died at St. Mary's hospital, Saturday. The rites were conducted by the Rev. Martin Jimenez, pastor of the church, and burial was made in the South Park cemetery.
Mr. Mata came to Roswell in 1942 from DeWitt county, Texas, where he had one time served as sheriff. He was employed at the air base here for three years.
He was born in Matamoros, Mexico, in 1884, and was brought to the United States by his parents while he was still a baby.
Three sons and six daughters survive him, and they are: Mrs. Geronima Sanchez, Mrs. Sabina Gonzalez, Mrs. Delores Flores, Mrs. Blasa Sanchez, Mrs. Jane Valencia, Cosme Mata and Nellie Mata all of Roswell, and Johnny Mata of Houston, Texas.

Three children were lost at birth: Jose Maria, Josiah, Felipa was born before Cosme.

On the Sunday Grandma wanted to go to Woodland to visit. After Church she was very tired and wanted to lay on the couch. She woke up later and needed help to get to the bathroom she vomit green. She sat on the toilet Lupe went next door to call the Dr and ambulance.

Last Rites Set for Mrs. Mata
Funeral services for Mrs. Norma Mata, 69, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church, 412 E. Matthew.
Rev. Ruben Guajardo, pastor, will officiate and special vocal selections will be rendered by the church choir. Interment will follow in South Park Cemetery.
A special prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening in the Mason Funeral Chapel.
Following this service, the body will be taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ben Sanchez, 411 E. McGaffey, where it will lie in state until time for funeral services on Saturday.
Mrs Mata died earlier this week in Yuba City, Calif., where she had been living for the past year. Prior to that time she had been a Roswell resident for 18 years.
Casket bearers for Saturday's services will be Eloy Sanchez, Eliver Sanchez, Elrin (Efraim) Sanchez, Ismael Sanchez, Ruben Gonzales and Joseph (John) Mata.
Arrangements are by Mason Funeral Home.

Sabina Gonzales dies; rites pend

Funeral services for Sabina M. Gonzales, 63, of 414 S. Cypress, are pending at Ballard Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gonzales died early today at her home of natural causes.
She was born Oct. 26, 1908 in Cuero, Tex. to J.G. and Norma Magellan Matta, She moved to Roswell in 1943.
She married Frank C. Gonzales July 31 1943 in Crowell, Tex. She was a member of the Spanish Assembly of God Church and a missionary organization known as C.M.I. of the Spanish Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Gonzales had been a resident of Roswell for 29 years. She was preceded in death by one son.
Survivors are her husband; two sons, Ruben M. and Victor Gonzales, both of Roswell; four daughters, Naomi Gonzales and Mrs. Eloyda Gomez, both of Albuquerque, Mrs. Norma Gigliotti, of Oklahoma City,Okla. and Mrs. Elida Flores of Portales; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Frank Matta, of Houston, Tex., Cosme and Johnny Matta both of Long Beach, Calif.; five sisters, Mrs. Gerrie Sanchez of Long Beach, Mrs. Delores Flores of Chico, Calif., Mrs. Jane Valencia of Lubbock, Tex., Mrs. Nellie Reyes of Sacramento, Calif. and Blacita Sanchez of Roswell.


1st husband Ventura Rodriquez was Ruben father. They lived with Ventura's mother Ramoncita in a tent. Ventura died of TB. Sabina never left his side, she was pregnant with Ruben.

Frank C. Gonzales

A prayer service is scheduled for 7 P.M. today Nov. 18, 1994, at Primera Iglesia Asamblea De Dios, Templo La Hermosa, at 1305 S. Garden, for Frank C. Gonzales, 92, of Albuquerque, formerly of Roswell. Gonzales passed away Nov. 16, 1994 in Albuquerque. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, South Park- 49-424 November 19, 1994


Nov. 19, at the church. The services will be conducted by his nephew Rev. Sam Matta of Abilene, Texas.
Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Gonzales was born Nov. 25, 1901 in Tyler, Texas.
He married Sabina M. Mata on July 31,1943 in Crowell, Texas. She passed away May 30, 1972.
Gonzales moved to Roswell in 1943 and was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He retired from NMMI in the Maintenance Department in 1968 after working there for 15 years.
In 1981, he moved to Albuquerque where he lived until his death.
Survivors include 2 sons, Ruben M. Gonzales and his wife Dottie of Roswell, Victor M. Gonzales and his wife Delores of Albuquerque; 4 daughters, Naomi Lafferty and her husband Bill, Eloyda Gomez and her husband Antonio, Elida Flores and her husband Richard, all of Albuquerque, Norma Gigliotti and her husband Frank of San Diego, Calif., and 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is a sister, Elizabeth Rodriquez of Vernon, Texas; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws,
Mr. and Mrs. Savino Sanchez of Roswell, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Valencia of Lubbock, Texas, Mrs. Acencion
Matta of Houston, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Mata of Rio Rancho, NM, Mr. and Mrs. Lupe Reyes of Citrus Heights, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 1 sister and 1 brother.
Gonzales was a veteran of World War II.
Pallbearers will be Greg Flores, Richard Flores, Frank Gigliotti, Antonio Gomez, Miguel Gomez and Bill Lafferty.
Honorary Pallbearers will be grandchildren , Laura Gomez, Katherina Gonzales, Kristine Gonzales, Angela Jimenez, Poncho Gigliotti, Juliana Casaus, Ruben F. Gonzalez, Alicia Gonzales, Delicia Gonzales, Zantiago Gonzales, Nicole Gonzales and Victoria Gonzalez.
The Family will receive friends at 412 N. Elm St., Roswell.

Frank came to Roswell to be the Pastor of the church. His brother Cosme came to work, Frank told him about the base that there was a lot of work. Then followed Savino they brought Sabina with them. Then Gero and Lolita.

Blacita "Blasa" Sanchez

Prayer services are scheduled for 7 P.M. today (Thursday) , Feb. 1, at the Church On The Move, for Blacita "Blasa" Sanchez, 75, of Roswell, who passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 1996, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 P.M. Friday, Feb. 2, also at The Church On The Move, Pastor Steve Smothermon will officiate, assisted by Pastors Jon Ogle and Sam Matta. Special music will be provided by Gary Pack, Rudy Matta, Linda Lopez and the Church On The Move
Praise Team.
Blacita was born March 4, 1920, in Yoakum, Texas, to Jesus G. and Norberta Matta, both of whom have
preceded her in death as well as her daughter, Inez Sanchez; two brothers, Frank Matta and Cosme Matta; three sisters, Geronima Sanchez, Sabina Gonzalez and Delores Flores.
On July 6, 1940, Blacita married Savino P. Sanchez Sr. in Crowell, Texas. He survives her at the family home.
Formerly of Texas, Blacita had been a resident of Roswell for the past 53 years. She was a homemaker and a member of The Templo La Hermosa-Assembly of God Church.
In addition to her husband, Savino, other survivors include her two sons, Savino Sanchez Jr. and his wife Grace, and Eliver Sanchez and his wife, Shirley; her seven daughters, Blacita Zamora and her husband, Gene, Benita Zamora, Belia Chaparro and her husband, Mike Baca, Bertha Salinas and her husband, Juan, and Nina Johnson and her husband Ron, all of Roswell; Ana Vermeulen of San Diego, Calif.; and Gina Sanchez-Lucero and her husband, Steve, of Navarre, Fla.; a brother, Johnny Matta of Albuquerque; two sisters, Juanita Valencia and her husband, Paul, of Lubbock, Texas, and Nellie Reyes and her husband, Lupe, of Citrus Heights, Calif.; 29 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Gene Zamora Jr., Leroy Zamora Jr., Joseph Sanchez, Savino Sanchez, Johnny Salinas and Dustin Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Zamora, Shawn Zamora, Philip Chaparro, Michael Sanchez, Nicholas Sanchez and Reinhard Joaquin Vermeulen.

John Magellan Mata

Memorial services are scheduled for 7 P.M. today, April 15, at First Assembly of God, 301 N. Garden Ave., for Johnny Magellan Mata, 71, of Rio Rancho, who passed away Monday, April 12, 1999, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center.
His nephew, Pastor Lawrence Sanchez of Church of God of Prophecy in Roswell, will be officiating.
There will be another memorial Service at 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, at Templo Buenas Nuevas at 11953 Third St. N.W. in Albuquerque. His brother-in-law, lifetime friend and co-pastor Joe S. Torres will be officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque.
Johnny was born Feb. 8, 1928, Sweethome, Texas, to Jesus Garcia Mata and Norberta Reyes Magellan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Teresita Sanchez Torres. They were married 47 years until she passed away on their anniversary, Dec. 28, 1997.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Frank M. Matta and Cosme M. Mata; sisters, Jerry Sanchez, Delores Flores, Sabina Gonzales and Blacita Sanchez.
He married Margarita Alcala in Abilene, Texas, in November 1998. She survives him.
Other survivors include four daughters, Eva Carrasco, Theresa Mata, Mary Ann Del Real and her husband Martin, of Roswell, and Norma Garcia of Watauga, Texas; sons, Johnny Mata Jr. and his wife, Hermelinda, of El Centro, Calif. and Cosme Mata of Montgomery, Texas; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Jose de Jesus Mata, Jose Angel Gonzalez of Albuquerque, Pedro Gonzalez and Matthew Mata of Roswell, Johnny Mata lll and Carlos Mata of El Centro, Cosme Jr.
and Max Mata of Montgomery, Texas, Prospero Garcia Jr. of Watauga, Texas and a nephew, Leroy Sanchez.
Johnny lived in Roswell in the mid 1940s around the age of 12. He has moved from Texas with his parents, who founded Templo Hermosa on Matthew Street.
He attended and graduated from the Latin American College in Isleta, Texas.
Throughout the years he has always been involved with the church and serving God.
He retired from New Mexico Military Institute after working there 14 years. He also retired from the University of Long Beach in California in 1990 after 22 years.
He and Teresita founded and was the pastor at Templo Buenas Nuevas in Albuquerque which was their lifetime ambition.
A special thanks to Margarita who was only married to dad a short time. She helped him though a rough time; and grandson Matthew Mata who was his right hand man, until he went to be with the Lord.
The family invites all family members and friends and acquaintances to accompany us in memory of their loved one.

Albuquerque -- Memorial services are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan.1, at Temple Buenas Nuevas Church of God of Prophecy in Albuquerque for Marie Barbara "Teresita" Mata, 68, of Rio Rancho.
Officiating will be Bishop Raul Torres of Lubbock.
Teresita passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at an Albuquerque hospital.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Judge Samuel Mata of Abilene officiating.
Teresita was born Dec. 4, 1929, in Glencoe to Louis Baca Torres and Amanda Gill Sanchez.
She married John M. Mata Dec. 28, 1950, in Roswell. He survives her at the Rio Rancho family home.
Other survivors include four daughters, Eva Carrasco and Theresa Mata, both of Albuquerque, Mary Ann Del Real and her husband, Martin, of Rio Rancho and Norma Garcia of Watauga, Texas; two sons, Johnny Mata Jr. and his wife Hermelinda of El Centro, Calif., and Cosme Mata of Montgomery, Texas.

She was preceded in death by sister, Epifania "Ernestine" Atkinson; grandchildren, April Holdridge, Juan Antonio Mata and Susan Mata; and daughter-in-law, Marie Bourdon Mata.
She was a nutritionist for California Extension Program before retiring and moving to Rio Rancho.
She was actively involved in Temple Buenas Nuevas Church of God of Prophecy in Albuquerque where her husband is the Pastor.
Before becoming ill the day after her birthday, she was practicing for the Christmas program and chorus and decorating the church.
The members have expressed their love for her in many ways.
They had just moved to a new building where she and John spent many hours getting the church in shape.
She will be greatly missed by all, but will always be in our hearts forever.

Wilmington, Calif. ---- Funeral services were held in Wilmington, Calif., for Ernie Sedillo, 32, of Wilmington, who passed away 26, 1994, in California.
Rosary was held June 1, 1994, and the Mass Of Resurrection was held on Thursday, June 2, 1994, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wilmington. Burial followed in the Wilmington Cemetery.
